The federal government has set up a special working group to help deal with the long delays in immigration applications and passport processing, which have left Canadians disappointed.
In a statement announcing the new working group, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the federal government knew the delays were unacceptable and would continue to do everything possible to improve service delivery in an efficient and timely manner.
Trudeau said the new task force would help the government better respond to the changing needs of Canadians and continue to provide them with the high-quality services they need and deserve.
Ten cabinet members will chair the new commission, which will review how services are provided and identify gaps and areas for improvement.
The Commission will be expected to make recommendations outlining short-term and long-term solutions that would reduce waiting times, clear backlogs and improve the overall quality of services provided.
In addition, the working group will monitor external issues, such as labor shortages around the world, which contribute to delays in travel at home and abroad.
