The NBA draft for 2022 provided answers and questions alike.

Of course, this allowed months of speculation about where the best prospects would appear, but it also added much more established names – Kyrie Irving, for example – to the rumor mill.

Even if the choice is all-in, the biggest off-season deals may come in the form of deals. There are several teams with screaming holes in their rotations. Although a free agency is only a few days away, swaps may be the best way to deal with them.

Here we will look at a few potential deals that include high-end players who have not moved on the night of the draft, but can still easily change teams within the next week.

Trade: Miami Heath’s Kyrie Irving for Kyle Lowry and Tyler Hero

If Irving leaves the Brooklyn Nets through trade, the franchisee who takes over will have to believe that his culture is exceptional. He would have to believe — despite a decade of evidence to suggest that Irving could not be prevented by one form of success undermining introspection or another — that this time things would be different. He would have to believe that all of Irving’s significant talent would be worth the effort, because it would come to him in ways no one had ever had before.

You need a franchise that is constantly hungry for stars who add a share of the championship – one that is completely uninterested in the distant future.

This is Miami Heath. They are the only semi-logical option.

This deal could be expanded and expanded in a variety of ways, with more choices, and perhaps Duncan Robinson heads to Brooklyn for Irving and additional players. But there is no scenario in which Miami includes Bam Adebayo. More generally, the commercial value of Irving is (or should be) relatively low. So we keep it simple.

It’s hard to say whether Heath will worry more about Irving taking over as an expiring salary or in a sign and trade that gave him two or three extra years on contract. Losing Kyle Lowry and Tyler Hero to hire would hurt, but dedicating a few years to Irving has been just as painful lately.

The Heat are prone to risk, needing the first photo creator next to Jimmy Butler. Irving’s talent is tempting enough, even with all the potential headaches it brings.

From Brooklyn’s point of view, the final lineup of Lowry, Hero, Joe Harris, Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons would be dangerous. Keep Nick Claxton or add at least a conventional center, trust Seth Curry to offer enough extra shots as a starter and sign a wing defender with the exception of the mini midfield and the Nets can head to 2022-23 with reasonable confidence that they can to compete with everyone.

Perhaps most importantly, the addition of Lowry and Hero – two legitimate talents with experience in the finals (and a ring in Lowry’s case) – can convince Durant that Brooklyn is still the best place for him.

Trade: De’Aaron Fox for the New York Knicks for RJ Barrett, Derrick Rose and two first round selections for 2023 (via Detroit and Washington)

The New York Knicks came out of the draft without dealing with their need for guard points, and although everyone seems to think that their decision to swap from the first round and drop the salary was made in view of overpaying free agent Jalen Brunson, we we claim the following.

    What if it wasn’t?

Brunson would now be an almost painfully obvious goal, but there is no guarantee that New York will offer a better deal than the Dallas Mavericks. And Brunson may just prefer to stay where he is. There are worse players to tie your fortune to than Luka Doncic.

So let’s give Knicks an alternative and use some of the draft they added to make a deal.

De’Aaron Fox has a maximum contract, so there really is no such thing as a low purchase option with him. But his end-of-year efforts in 2021-22 could make the Sacramento Kings more comfortable with the idea of moving him than they would have been after 2020-21, when Fox was one of four players with an average of at least 25.0 points, 7 0 assists and 7.0 free throw attempts per game.

The others: Doncic, Damien Lillard and Trey Young.

Knicks fans will certainly be deterred from betraying RJ Barrett, the team’s best young player. But a closer look reveals that Fox has long been a safer bet to achieve a star than Barrett.

Fox’s 21-year-old campaign was significantly better than the one Barrett had just completed. At the same age, Fox surpassed Barrett in true shooting rate (54.4 to 51.1 percent), player efficiency rating (18.1 to 13.7), plus / minus field (1.5 to minus-1, 6) and a value above the substitute (2.3 to 0.2). In fact, Barrett has never posted a positive BPM figure or an average of more than 20.0 points per game. Fox did both three times.

And since Barrett is due to be extended next summer, which is likely to put him in Fox’s pay grade, the financial component of this deal will soon be a washout from New York’s perspective.

Although last year was a disappointment, Fox closed with a boom that indicated a full-season recovery could be forthcoming. He averaged 28.9 points, 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds with 50.3 / 38.0 / 76.6 shots since January.

Fox does not fit perfectly with Domantas Sabonis, a center without stretching, who is best with the ball in his hands. Nikola Jokic was the only big man to surpass Sabonis’ 5.2 assists in a game last year, but Fox’s career with 32.0 per cent three-point shooting means he has little use as a threat outside the ball.

If the Kings had chosen Jaden Ivy, it would have been even easier to sell. But remember that they chose defender Davion Mitchell in 2021 and he showed elite defense and flashes of playmaking talent. Even without Ivy replacing Fox, Sacramento could still turn him over to give Barrett the big dynamic wing he missed … (checking the calendar) … someday.

Trade: Miles Turner and Chris Duarte for the Toronto Raptors for OG Anunoby and Khem Birch

The Indiana Pacers grabbed Benedict Maturin at number 7, adding the threat of shooting outside the ball to the backfield, which was already a bit crowded. The Arizona product was joined by Chris Duarte, Tyrese Haliburton, Malcolm Brogdon, Buddy Hield and TJ McConnell.

Although Miles Turner is a key export on the part of Indy, the now unusable Duarte may be enough sweetener to persuade the Toronto Raptors to part ways with OG Anunoby. Khem Birch is as big a service for the Pacers as anything else, running a reasonable $ 6.7 million replacement center in 2022-23.

Duarte lacks Anunobi’s strength and flexibility in defense, but the 25-year-old scores 13.1 points per game and shoots 36.9 percent from distance as a rookie. He would fit perfectly into a rotation that could use another guard behind Fred Van Vleit and Gary Trent Jr. Turner, meanwhile, will give Toronto the center he misses, while adding even more stretch to his preferred five-out look.

Anunobi has a contract for two more seasons plus a player option and still feels like a player who has one (or two) more levels of development ahead. The Raptors wouldn’t normally part with one because of Turner’s expiring salary, but Anunnobi may not be happy with Toronto, and you have to accept that the terms for Turner’s extension will be discussed before making a deal like this.

Trade: John Collins and Kevin Huerter to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rosier, Kelly Aubrey Jr. and PJ Washington

Despite clear intentions, the Atlanta Hawks could not find a candidate for John Collins on the night of the draft. No problem. They can move it to a deal that does not involve a choice.

The Duke AJ Griffin winger, chosen by the Hawks under number 16, does not necessarily overlap with Collins. But Griffin is expected to contribute primarily as a scorer, which could make it easier for Atlanta to use Kevin Huerter as an additional figure.

This updated version of Hawks has Terry Rosier as a dynamic secondary playmaker behind (or next to) Trey Young, filling a potentially critical need with Bogdan Bogdanovic, who recently underwent surgery on his right knee. He has had problems with this knee since January 2021, and although Bogdanovic is a star combo guard, he has not played more than 63 games in any of the last three seasons. Generally speaking, a team can never have too many photo creators.

In addition to Rosie, Atlanta will add length and chaos to Kelly Oubre Jr.’s defense plus will see PJ Washington before his limited free agency in 2023. Although Collins is the better offensive player, Washington is a big one that stretches on the floor. can be placed as a center with a small ball with the correct matches.

The Charlotte Hornets’ country is easier to explain. Collins is the biggest name in the deal and a potential All-Star if he gets a more meaty role. He would fit well in 4 along with center rookie Mark Williams or Mason Plumley, who, yes, received his full salary of $ 9.1 million guaranteed for 2022-23. Huerter’s shooting and underestimated 2 play will make him strong next to LaMelo Ball, and his 6’7 “size will help make up for the loss of length as he leaves Oubre.

Moving Collins has always seemed like a strange fix for the Hawks, but if they are still committed to getting rid of him, the return of rotating players who can add playmaking, defense and stretching would be a good way.

Trade: Deandre Ayton to the Indiana Pacers for Miles Turner

Miles Turner has been in commercial rumors for months, and Deandre Ayton’s departure from the Phoenix Suns has become more likely every day since he and the team failed to agree to extend the preseason. Both centers were thought to be in high demand, but two of the smartest landing sites disappeared on Black Night.

The Detroit Pistons landed Jalen Duren of Memphis, and the Charlotte Hornets grabbed Mark Williams of Duke, removing two major holes in the center that could have been filled by Turner. or Ayton.

    Honestly, Detroit is …
