SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick – William Dufour scored four goals in an interval of 19 minutes, 55 seconds and host St. John Sea Dogs advanced in the Memorial Cup championship match, defeating Quebec’s Major Hockey League rival 5 Shawtaigan.

QMJHL champion Shauinigan will face the winner of the Ontario Hockey League Hamilton in the semifinals on Monday night, with the winner advancing against St. John in the final on Wednesday night.
Dufour erased Schauinigan’s 3-0 lead with a natural hat-trick in the second, scoring at 2:02, 2:23 and 8:38. Jeremy Poirier gave the Sea Dogs the lead in a game with a power of 5:48 until the end of the period, and Dufour hit again at 1:57 of the third.
The 6-foot-3 Dufour, selected in the fifth round of the NHL 2020 draft by the New York Islanders, was QMJHL’s MVP this season after scoring 56 goals and finishing with 116 points in the regular season.
Loris Rafanomezanzoa opened the scoring for Chavinigan in 49 seconds, Olivier Nado made it 2-0 at 5:27 by the end of the period, and William Veylet came in with 43 seconds to go.
Nikolas Hurtubise made 26 saves for St. John. Sea Dogs scored two wins and lost overtime in a round robin game.
Canceled in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event includes the winners of the three major youth leagues and the host team.
