The Toronto Pride Parade returns in person

Tens of thousands of people are expected to parade at today’s Pride Parade in downtown Toronto, marking the return of personal celebrations for the LGBTQ annual holiday.

Toronto’s first private pride parade since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic is scheduled to head south on Yonge Street before descending to Yonge-Dundas Square.

The festival’s climax is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., but Pride’s calendar is full of events, including concerts on Church Street and a strange skateboard jam in Nathan Phillips Square.

Festival organizers say attendees can help reduce long queues at stage venues by going without bags if possible.

Before the weekend, organizers said the festival was working with private security companies to conduct inspections at designated locations.

They say additional measures are needed given the reported increase in incidents against LGBTQ this month.
