You may not know his name, but he has performed alongside some of the musical greats of all time.
Rory Dodd of Port Dover, Ont. is the Hall of Fame, worthy when you find out his autobiography.
“You go into a studio and Lou Reed sits there, you go into a studio and Billy Joel is there,” said Dodd of London, Ont. before being inducted into the Forest City London Music Awards (FCLMA) Hall of Fame.
Dodd’s voice is probably best known for signing “Turn Around” in Bonnie Tyler’s single Total Eclipse of the Heart.
However, in the industry he is known as the backup vocalist of Meatloaf in his album Bat out of Hell.
“The thing I’m most proud of was that I had number one to three songs in the country at the same time,” Dodd said.
In the top 100, I had Total Eclipse of the Heart in first place, I had Making Love and Nothing at All and number two, and I had Tell her about it, with Billy and number three for six. weeks. ”
From the small town of Port Dover with 3,200 people to the Grammy Awards with Celine Dion for “Everything Comes Back to Me Now,” he has also repeatedly performed the national anthem at Madison Square Garden.
When the FCLMA expanded its catchment area, Dodd was an easy choice.
“The thing about the music industry is that the people at the front are usually the ones who are recognized,” said Scotty Bollett of the FCLMA.
“There are so many things going on behind the scenes, composers, writers, backgrounds, vocalists, producers, all of these things. So this is a moment where you see this person walking down the street many times and no one even knows who is right? But it’s the sound of every big rock hit and the third best-selling record of all time in the world, Bat Out of Hell. “
Dodd also avoids the spotlight, but humbles himself by being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“It was just a wild trip and I enjoyed every minute of it,” says Dodd.
