A woman was found dead after a house explosion in Birmingham Birmingham

A woman was found dead after a house explosion in Birmingham, while a man remained in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The blast, which struck around 8.40pm on Sunday, completely destroyed one house and significantly damaged three others.

A spokesman for the West Midlands ambulance said: “Members of the emergency response team worked with firefighters to search the damaged property and unfortunately found one person.

“Nothing could be done and the person was confirmed to be dead at the scene.

Neighbors reportedly climbed over burning debris to help a man who was on the property at the time of the blast, and he received “very serious injuries,” the ambulance said.

Four other people were treated at the scene of the Dulwich Road accident in Kingstend, northern Birmingham, for minor injuries.

The West Midlands Fire Department said it believed the blast, which was heard two miles away, was a gas explosion.

A man who declined to give his name said he helped take a wounded man out of the house on a mattress, and “he said there was a woman in the house.”

“The dust from the attic insulation was burning around us,” he said. “We managed to get to him and get him out.”

Aerial footage from the scene shows that smoke and windows hanging from neighboring properties are rising from where the property used to stand.

Police said locals had been evacuated from the area and the road remained closed.
