One of the two Yukon men reported missing earlier this month has been found, while the other remains unknown, according to the Yukon RCMP.
In a press release Saturday, police said Mitchell Fichten was found alive after several days of searching by the Yukon RCMP, conservation officers and Capital Helicopters.
Evan Russell is still unknown.
The two men were reported missing from their families on June 14. They had not been heard of since October 2021, when they both left Faro, the Yukon, to spend the winter in the Yukon Desert.
Police are still searching for Evan Russell, seen here with and without a beard. Russell and Mitchell Fichten had planned to spend the winter in the Yukon Desert. The RCMP said on Saturday that Fichten was found alive in a remote area. (Yukon RCMP)
According to a press release, Fichten was found in a remote region and is now receiving medical treatment.
“Police are asking others not to visit areas where searches are known to be taking place,” the press release said.
“The authorities involved in the search have the necessary resources and experience to continue to follow in the footsteps of Mr Russell’s search.”
