The former Moncton teacher faces more sexual assault charges for 35 years

A former Monkton teacher faces more sexual assault charges dating back to 1968 and more recently to 2003, according to the RCMP.

Codiac’s regional RCMP has heard from “many people over the past few weeks,” including alleged victims and witnesses “who have shared information about alleged incidents,” Sergeant. Mathieu Roy, of the General Investigation Department, said in a press release Monday.

“Based on the information disclosed to us, we have reason to believe that there may be other victims or witnesses who could assist in our investigation.

The investigation began last August when the regional RCMP Codiac received a complaint of alleged incidents of sexual assault involving a male teacher at the École Champlain in Moncton in 1987 and 1988.

Following an investigation, a 75-year-old man was arrested in January 2022 in connection with the complaint.

On April 4, Paul J. Miletus of Notre Dame has been indicted in Moncton County Court for calling for sexual assault, sexual violence and acts of gross obscenity. He was released on parole pending a future court date. There is a court injunction prohibiting the publication of any information that could potentially identify the alleged victim.

In May, the RCMP issued a press release looking for other alleged victims.

The investigation is ongoing, Roy said Monday. Police are still actively questioning people and gathering information.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call Codiac’s regional RCMP at 506-857-2400.

“Please know that you can come to us and you will be treated with compassion, care and discretion by trained and experienced investigators,” Roy said. “You are not alone. We are here to support you.”

A complaint of sexual offenses can be filed at any time, no matter how far the incident has occurred, the press release said.

Survivors of sexual assault or harassment or people with information that could help in the ongoing investigation of a sexual crime can call the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267).
