Stopping drunk driving turned into a shooting incident for Penticton police early Tuesday morning.

On June 28, shortly after 1 a.m., officers conducted an investigation into driving violations on Peach Rock Road and Green Mountain Road.

As the traffic continued, a red SUV arrived west on Green Mountain Road.

Shortly afterwards, shots were heard from the jeeps.

Officers disguised themselves and watched the jeep continue west. A police vehicle was left “bullet-riddled,” according to RCMP Const. James Grandy.

“Fortunately, none of our employees or close residents and pedestrians who were outside at the time were injured,” Grandi said.

“It was a very clear disregard for the police and public safety. It also highlights the dangers that our front-line officers face every day as they serve our communities. “

Investigators are interested in talking to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information related to that incident.

If you have witnessed this incident or have other information, you should call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300. Or stay completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
