Conservative Party deputy leader Chris Pincher has resigned after allegations he groped two men while drunk.
In a resignation letter sent to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he said he had “embarrassed myself and other people” by drinking too much at the party’s private club.
The alleged incident reportedly took place at the Carlton Club in London’s Piccadilly on Wednesday night.
The Tamworth MP said in his resignation letter: “I had too much to drink last night. I have embarrassed myself and others, which is the last thing I want to do, and for that I apologize to you and those affected.”
After his resignation, Labor leader Angela Rayner criticized the Tories and said members were “stuck in a cesspool”.
“The Conservative Party is so mired in sloppiness and scandal that it is completely incapable of dealing with the challenges facing the British people,” the Labor leader said.

Downing Street has warned Tory MPs that it will “put a gun to the forehead” of any future Tory prime minister if they change the leadership rules in a bid to remove Boris Johnson.

Mr Pincher, who was appointed to the post last February to strengthen party discipline, resigned after a drunken incident in which he said he had “embarrassed myself and other people”.
“Boris Johnson needs to answer serious questions about why Chris Pincher got this role in the first place and how he can remain a Conservative MP,” Ms Rayner said.
“The Conservative Party is so mired in sloppiness and scandal that it is completely incapable of dealing with the challenges facing the British people.
“Conservative MPs who continue to support this Prime Minister’s paralyzed administration need to build a spine and tell him the party is done.”

The Tamworth MP said in his resignation letter: “I had too much to drink last night. I have embarrassed myself and other people, which is the last thing I want to do and I apologize to you and those affected.
“I think the right thing to do in the circumstances is to resign as Deputy Chief Whip. I owe it to you and the people I have caused the disorder to do. ”
The Metropolitan Police said they were not aware of any calls to the scene of the alleged incident and had no record in their systems of any related reports made on Thursday.
