A 14-year-old teen girl was sexually abused by a man on a bicycle path in Renfrewshire

A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking on a bicycle path in Renfrewshire.

The teenager was walking on a path near the A737 overpass on Kintyre Avenue in Lynwood around 8.30pm on Saturday night.

Police say she was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately.

The suspect is described as a man between the ages of 20 and 30, with a large physique, dark hair and dark clothes.

It is believed that at that time there were public figures in the area, including people fishing in the waters of Black Cart Water.

Detective Inspector Gary Sergeant said: “Although the girl did not need medical attention, she was very shocked by what happened.

“Officers are investigating the area after the incident.

“We believe that the area would be quite busy with members of the public, including people who fish in Black Cart Water.

“If you were in the area at the time, please reconsider and contact us if you have any information that may help our investigation.

“I also urge anyone who may have seen something suspicious, or someone who fits that description, to come forward.”

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Scottish Police via 101, citing reference number 3488 from Saturday, 23 April 2022.
