The driver of a sedan traveling at high speed on Highway 25 in Montreal on Friday night crashed into the vehicle in front of him before overturning.
The incident took place in the Anjou area, near Bombardier Street. The driver, a 33-year-old man, reportedly lost control of his car after the collision before being in the middle of the highway around 7:15 p.m.
He was seriously injured and was transported to Sacré-Coeur Hospital, where authorities said his life was in danger until late in the evening.
The two passengers in the car he crashed, aged 18 and 27, received minor injuries.
The driver may receive fees for disability and dangerous driving, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Nicolas Soltus.
Blood samples were taken at the hospital. Alcohol is involved, police said. SQ investigators were sent to the scene to investigate further.
Two of the three lanes of Highway 25 south in Montreal were closed to traffic, but reopened late in the evening.
