A body was found by a river in search of a 21-year-old man who has been missing for 19 days.
Nathan Fleetwood disappeared after a night out in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. On the night of his disappearance, March 27, he was spotted in downtown Shrewsbury around 2:30 p.m. He was last seen at Kingsland Bridge.
West Mercia police said the body was found during a search and rescue of West Mercia in the Severn River on Friday. The forces said that the official identification has not been made yet, but the man’s family has been informed about the discovery.
Hundreds of people helped in the search for Fleetwood, organized by his family and his friend Toby Owen.
In a Facebook post on Help Finding Missing Nathan Fleetwood, which has more than 8,900 members, Owen thanked the community for coming together. He wrote: “Nathan, I just want you to know from the bottom of my heart, we all love you so much and we did our best to get you home safe.”
He added a statement saying he was from the Fleetwood family, asking for “time and space” to come to terms with their loss.
Another Facebook post by Fleetwood’s mother, Carol, invited community members to join the family on Sunday to “share stories and memories of our very special son.”
