A police officer from the suburbs of Chicago shot and killed a man with an ax, seen in shocking footage from the body camera, which appears during a traffic stop in the city of Naperville, Illinois, police said.
The Naperville Police Department, releasing footage from the camera, said a police officer stopped traffic around 11 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Bond Street and McDowell Road when an unconnected vehicle stopped next to the vehicle the police officer stopped.
A man described as a white man, about 20 years old, got out of the vehicle and attacked the policeman with an ax in his hand, police said. A still image taken from the officer’s camera shows the man in black wearing a gun waving his weapon in his right hand as he appears to be shooting at the officer.
The officer, a 22-year-old veteran of the Naperville Police Department, which serves the city of about 145,000 people about 28 miles west of Chicago, fired a firearm, hitting the suspects.
