A child rapist who was filmed abusing little girls admitted to multiple sexual assaults.
Melvin Miller, a native of St. Helens, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020 after raping two girls – aged six and 11, respectively – in a horrific campaign of ill-treatment. But today he reappeared after it turned out that he had committed other rapes on one of his victims.
The Royal Court of Liverpool heard Miller, who was found with more than a quarter of a million obscene images of children, filmed him raping the girl for eight minutes. Prosecutor John Wynn Williams said the new charges against the 46-year-old man, who is serving his sentence at HMP Frankland in Durham County, come after new charges by one of his victims.

Mr Williams said: “After he was convicted, she made further revelations. In this police interview, she claims that she was raped by the defendant. Police then conducted a new analysis of a hard drive they had seized from Miller and found footage of him raping the little girl.
Defense attorney Paul Lewis said Miller did not initially plead guilty to the crimes, but later did so in order to avoid the need for a trial. In total, Miller pleaded guilty to three additional counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape and one count of making an indecent video of a child.
The judge, Neil Fluit, QC, said recent allegations revealed that Miller’s abuse of the child was even worse than previously known. Referring to the eight-minute recording that Miller abused, Judge Fluitt called it “horrifying.”
Judge Fluit also convicted Miller of Mountfield in Fromm, Somerset in 2020. The 16-year sentence was handed over to the Court of Appeals by the Attorney General on charges of being too lenient.
The Court of Appeal upheld the original verdict, although it noted that it was at the lower end of the accepted range. Speaking today, Judge Fluit said his goal was to imprison Miller for all his crimes, which would reflect what it would have been like if they had been convicted at once. This is because they were all part of the same criminal behavior and were committed during the same period.
He said that would mean following the same principles that were followed during the sentencing hearing in 2020. Judge Fluit said: “I make it clear that I will not retroactively correct the sentence I imposed on this occasion due to these observations by the Court of Appeal. ‘
He sentenced Miller to 15 years in prison at the same time. This means that the sentence will be served at the same time as his current sentences, but will increase the period he is behind bars before he is entitled to parole. It would have been April 2028, but now it will probably be the end of 2029. Judge Fluit said it was in line with the way Miller would have been convicted if the new allegations had been known in 2020.
Speaking after the verdict, Detective Inspector Joseph Al-Ramadan said: “Miller’s crimes were truly horrific. He is a dangerous sexual predator who will now face even longer imprisonment and life imprisonment. Thanks to the great courage of his victims, both of whom are still children, Miller was imprisoned for a considerable period of time two years ago.
“The victim, who had the power to tell more than her horrific crime, has allowed Merseyside police, the Royal Prosecution and the courts to extend the time she spends in prison and further protect the public from the damage Miller is doing. It was an extremely difficult process for the victims and I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to their courage. Despite the unimaginable suffering Miller endured, they came out of their experience with the strength and tenacity to speak to the police and cooperate in the trial, and helped bring this dangerous man to justice. ”
