A massive yacht caught fire on a river in New Hampshire on Saturday and sank after three people and two dogs jumped overboard.
The group was aboard a 72-foot ship called the Elusive on its way to the Piscataqua yacht harbor in New Castle when they noticed black smoke coming from below deck around 4 p.m., New Hampshire Security said.
The three men, as well as their two dogs, jumped into the river when the Elusive One caught fire. All five were rescued by good Samaritans on nearby boats.
The three boatmen – identified as Arthur Watson, 67, and Diane Watson, 57, from New Canaan, Connecticut, and Jarod Tubbs, 33, from Jupiter, Florida – were taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released.
The yacht – shown engulfed in flames and dark smoke in photos shared by the Coast Guard – eventually sank in Maine waters, where it sank about two hours after the initial call to 911.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
