A man passing by the school called 911 after seeing a man go to several doors to try to enter the school. The principal closed the school and called an employee of school resources and several other support agencies.

The SRO quarreled with the man who tried to take the policeman’s gun. The sheriff’s office said a police officer shot the man in front of a school. The man, who has not been identified, has been pronounced dead on the spot. The SRO was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

TRENDS:

There were about 40 children at the time of the shooting, who were at the school as part of a summer program. All children are safe and wanted.

“This is the call you don’t want to receive,” said Gadsden School Manager Tony Reddick. “You’re definitely worried about something potentially traumatic happening.”
