A man arrested after a knife raid in downtown Bedworth left ten wounded

A 33-year-old man who was arrested after at least 10 people were injured in a knife attack has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

It comes after a riot in downtown Bedworth, north of Coventry in England, on Saturday morning, in which three people were stabbed, Warwickshire police said.

After a mental health assessment, the Bedworth suspect was detained.

Police believe the man drove along Coventry Road and Gilbert Close, where he attacked at least 10 people shortly before 8 a.m.

Officials said the victims identified so far are helping the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Rich Simpkins called on witnesses and the wounded to leave if they had not already done so.

He said: “It was a nasty incident that left a number of people injured, and I know it will be of great concern to the community.

“The public can expect to see an increased police presence in and around Bedworth City Center to provide reassurance as our officers continue to investigate.

Several people were in the area at the time and may have been approached by the man, police said.
