A dispute between two men on the mezzanine floor of a New York subway station ended in death when one pulled out a gun and shot the other in the chest, police said.
The two men know each other and there was no continuing threat to the general public, officials said on Friday.
Police responded to the Jamaica subway station on Parsons Boulevard and Archer Street at around 4:30 p.m.
A 20-year-old man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, two high-ranking law enforcement sources said.
The armed man escaped from the station and was last seen running down the street. Sources said officers were looking for a man wearing a purple fool and a burgundy jacket.
Five shell casings and a firearm were found in the mezzanine mezzanine, the two sources said.
