SOUTH JAMAICA, QUEENS (WABC) – A Queens mother is fighting for her life after a horrific rage of beatings and running left a woman badly injured on Mother’s Day.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. Sunday on 120th Avenue in South Jamaica.
Police say the driver of the stolen dump truck tried to make a U-turn in a dead end street and started crashing into parked cars.
“He hit that white BMW. He hit about three or four times,” said eyewitness Sharon Brown. “The owners of the car came out. They were trying to stop him. He was still on the move.”
A woman walked to the truck, trying to stop him.
Video from surveillance and a mobile phone, received from Eyewitness News, shows how the driver then pressed the gas.
The truck crashed into a parked jeep, which collided with another car, squeezing the 48-year-old mother between them.
The woman’s daughter then called for help as the driver took off, leaving the mother to fight for her life.
She is now in critical condition at a hospital in Jamaica.
Police found the stolen truck about a mile from the scene, in front of a church.
There was significant damage to the front end.
The video surveillance footage shows the driver calmly leaving the car.
Police said the truck was stolen by a construction company.
The investigation continues.
The collision came just days after Mayor Eric Adams cracked down on reckless drivers in response to a spike in pedestrian incidents.
