Police say a pregnant mother lost her child after a two-car crash Thursday in southeast Calgary.
The crash happened around 4:25 p.m. on Stoney Trail, near the intersection of SE 52nd Street, according to a Calgary Police Service news release released Friday.
A 2007 Ford truck was parked in the far right eastbound lane of Stoney Trail waiting for a tow truck when police say a gray 2013 Volkswagen Jetta traveling east on the highway struck the rear of the truck.
The Jetta caught fire, which then spread to the truck, the release said. The two passengers in the truck, men in their 40s, were not injured.
The driver of the Jetta, a pregnant woman in her 20s, lost her child after the crash. Police say speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash.
Collision with serious injuries on Friday morning
CPS is also investigating another two-vehicle collision that occurred early Friday morning in the northeast part of the city and resulted in serious injuries.
The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Métis Trail and Airport Trail NE. According to police, a Hyundai Sonata traveling north on Métis Trail struck the passenger side of a Chevrolet Express van traveling east on Airport Trail toward the intersection.
The driver of the van, a 39-year-old man, was ejected from the passenger side of the road. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains, the release said.
The two men riding in the Hyundai, aged 22 and 33, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Police are looking at speed, traffic signal violations and alcohol as possible factors in the crash.
