Major General Andrei Simonov was killed near the town of Izyum in the Kharkiv region, which is currently occupied by Russian forces, Ukrainian authorities said.

The Ukrainian military attacked a field command post of the 2nd Russian Army on Saturday, hitting more than 30 Russian armored vehicles, including tanks, according to the publication.

Footage posted on social media appears to indicate that the command post was bombed by missiles, the Kyiv Post reported.

The general is among 100 Russian soldiers killed in the attack, said Zelensky’s military adviser Alexei Arestovich, according to The Kyiv Post. Arestovic said well-placed army sources had confirmed the death of Major General Simonov in a YouTube interview, according to Mail Online.

The allegations of the Ukrainian authorities have not been independently verified.

Russia has not yet confirmed the death of Major General Simonov.

Simonov was a senior commander of the electronic war, said Ukrainian government adviser Anton Gerashchenko in his Telegram account.

His death will make him the tenth Russian general to die in Ukraine, according to the Kyiv Post.
