Police in Bellevue, about 110 kilometers north of Orlando, received a call for a shooting late in the afternoon of April 3. When officers arrived at the residence, they found Christopher Broad Jr., who had been shot. He was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Four days later, Broad’s friend Joshua Winning was arrested for the manslaughter of another child, and another friend, Colton Whitler, was arrested for providing false information to police. Both boys are 17 years old.
During the investigation, police found evidence that Winning shot and killed 16-year-old Broad as the two took turns shooting at each other while wearing a vest that contained a bulletproof vest.

According to Click Orlando, 18-year-old Evan Vowel recorded the shooting on his mobile phone and handed over the footage to be used as evidence.
Police said Vowel told police that Winning first showed him Broad, Whitler and at least one other minor 9mm pistol and vest, asking if “they’ve ever seen anyone shot with a bulletproof vest.”
The video, according to the website, shows Broad being seen firing a single shot at Winning – who was wearing a vest – while Whitler was standing nearby. Broad and Winning swapped places, and Winning shot Broad in the vest once, Broad nodded, and Winning then shot Broad four more times, police said.
Whitler, who was initially interviewed as a witness to the shooting, lied about what happened and who shot Brod.

The forensic service said the cause of Broad’s death was a single gunshot wound to the chest, and the manner of death was described as murder, according to an affidavit of probable cause, CNN reported. The affidavit also said that when police arrived, they found that Winning was CPR on Broad.
Whitler first told dispatchers that “my house had just been shot, my friend was shot in the chest,” saying he did not know how many suspects were involved. However, in a police interview, Whitler claimed that Broad was shot by Voel. No evidence was found of the shelling of the apartment, police said.
Winning and Whitler are charged as adults.
