A1M is closed in both directions between Bradbury and Bowburn in Durham County after a serious accident with two cars and a pedestrian. There are emergency teams on site and road workers help manage traffic.
The road is closed between intersections 60 and 61. It is expected to remain closed for some time due to the severity of the accident.
There are deviations: traffic to the north is recommended to follow the symbol of the solid square, exit at junction 60 and take A689, A177 and A688 before rejoining A1. The movement to the south must follow a tight circular deviation along A688, A177 and A689.
National Highways said shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday morning: “A1M in Durham County is closed in both directions between J60 (Bradbury) and J61 (Bowburn) due to a serious collision involving two cars and a pedestrian. Emergency services are present, including Durham police.
“National Highway Traffic Officers also provide on-site assistance in traffic management. Due to the seriousness of the accident, the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
Drivers in the area are advised to take extra time for their journey and use an alternative route if possible. The Inrix Traffic Bureau reports that traffic has been suspended.
