Abortion activists have turned to Catholic churches for Mother’s Day protests, with some citing the Roman Catholic faith of a number of judges who reportedly backed an expired draft opinion removing Rowe and Wade.
The protests follow days of organizing in front of the Supreme Court building after information leaked Monday night – protests that prompted police in Washington, D.C., to erect a fence ostensibly to protect the building and justice inside. Fox News also learned that there was a strong police presence in the judges’ homes after the leak.

“Whether you are a ‘Catholic of choice’, a former Catholic, with or without another faith, admit that six extremist Catholics have set out to remove Rowe,” Ruth Sent Us, an abortion group, said on Twitter in a video. of activists who appear to be disrupting church service. “Stand in or at a local Catholic church, Sun. Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights is organizing a “week of action” beginning on May 8, Mother’s Day, with “Actions Outside the Churches.”
“This action was called for by a team of Spaniards [sic] speaking groups for women’s rights + activists across the country, including from Bride’s March, the Dominican Center for Women’s Development, Ni Una Menus and Las 17 “, according to the event’s schedule.” Several cities will host protests outside prominent churches in their cities, they may look like a group of people holding placards dressed in Handmaids Tale outfits, handing out leaflets outside to churchgoers, or dying. “
Abortion activists wear “The Maid’s Tale” outfits in protest, comparing laws restricting abortion to the regime of ritualized rape and forced maternity in Margaret Atwood’s novel.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts confirmed On Tuesday, Judge Samuel Alito’s draft opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was genuine – although the draft dates back to February and does not represent the current or final opinion of the court. In the project, Alito repeals Rowe v. Wade, which repeals state laws across the country and allows states to re-adopt their own abortion laws.
After the information leaked, activists called for protests in the homes of judges who will allegedly vote to repeal Rowe, and even published their addresses online.
It remains unclear whether the Court will overturn Rowe in Dobbs’ ruling and which judges will vote in favor of the move. Politico’s story announcing the connection claims that five judges voted for it and that Roberts supports maintaining the Mississippi abortion law in question, but does not want to repeal Rowe.

Brian Birch, president of the Catholic Vote, condemned the planned protests and called on President Biden – who has been criticized for claiming to be a Catholic identity while supporting abortion – to condemn what Birch called “internal terrorist threats”. .
“Following the shameless leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion, abortion groups are now threatening to destroy Catholic churches and protest in front of the homes of Supreme Court judges this Sunday,” Birch said in a statement Thursday.
“President Biden must immediately and forcibly condemn these domestic terrorist threats,” Birch said. “Anti-Catholic fanatics plan to intimidate and harass Catholics across the country, along with judges and their families. This country is built on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The president of the United States must stand up for both.”
“These threats follow a record number of attacks on Catholic churches, shrines and symbols in the last two years,” the Catholic Vote president added, citing the Boulder vandalism.
The Catholic vote called on the Ministry of Justice to investigate the trend of anti-Catholic vandalism, citing at least 120 cases from May 2020.
The White House on Thursday declined to encourage abortion activists to avoid protesting in judges’ private homes. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Biden “shares” the “concerns” and “horrors” of those who “feel outraged” or “frightened” by the leaked draft opinion.
When Peter Ducy of Fox News asked Psaki if protests against abortions outside judges’ homes could be considered extreme, she said: “Peaceful protest, no. violence. “

Contrary to Ruth, he sent us, the judges who voted to repeal Rowe were not “six Catholic extremists.” While Judges Alito, Clarence Thomas, Brett Cavanaugh and Amy Connie Barrett are Catholics, Neil Gorsuch, ostensibly the fifth voice, is a bishop. Roberts and Judge Sonia Sotomayor are also Catholics, although they have reportedly not voted to repeal Rowe. Judges Stephen Brier and Elena Kagan are Jewish, while new Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a non-denominational Protestant.
