At around 11pm on March 29, police were called to Block 600 of the South Street Center for attack signals.

According to a statement released by police this week, the victim said he was thrown to the ground by two unknown individuals who then kicked the victim several times. Security guards at a nearby building identified the victim and called emergency services.

Upon arrival, officers found a man with rib and face injuries and needed medical attention. Police believe the incident was an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable Calgary.

Corbyn Maverick Riley, 21, and John Segovia Calderon, 21, have been charged with one count of assault. Police confirmed that the incident was believed to be a hate attack.

“Every Calgary has the right to feel safe in our city, and violence against vulnerable members of our city will not be tolerated,” the police said in a statement on Thursday.
