Orlando, Florida – Orange County lawmakers say former NBA player Adrian Payne was shot and killed in Orlando early Monday morning. The person who allegedly pulled the trigger has been arrested.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Egret Shores Drive.
Deputies initially said a 30-year-old man had been shot and killed, but did not initially identify him. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office confirmed that 31-year-old Payne was the victim.
Investigators said the deadly incident was filmed on video by security guards at the bell. In the video, lawmakers said you could hear a woman shouting, “Enter the house. Enter the house. Oh, my God!”
The woman, who claims to be the victim’s mother, called 911. “Please help me! Help me! He shot my son! Please help me! I don’t know the address, I don’t know. He shot him. He just died, please help me!

Neighbor Victoria Otdielnova said she did not realize the murdered man, who once played in the NBA. “I’m shocked because I didn’t really know,” she added.
“I heard and saw the man screaming. “I think he was the one who was shot,” neighbor Nick Ponti told FOX 35 News.
Investigators said the accused shooter, Lawrence Doriti, 29, remained at the scene and was then taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. “The shooter stayed and helped the police,” said neighbor Jessica Martinez.
Residents said it was usually a quiet neighborhood.
“We were very scared,” Oddielnova added. “We saw everything through the window and we were horrified.”
On August 21, 2017, Payne signed a two-way contract with the Orlando Magic. He reportedly spent most of the 2017-18 season with Orlando’s NBA G League subsidiary, Lakeland Magic. Payne also played for the Timberwolves at Michigan State University College.
Doriti was arrested on a first-degree murder warrant and sentenced to Orange County Jail. No other details have been released. Check again for updates.
