Mariupol has been besieged by Russian troops and pro-Russian separatists for more than a month and has witnessed some of the fiercest urban wars in Ukraine’s conflict. Fighting has leveled much of the city, and the number of civilians killed so far is unknown. Many residents have failed to evacuate, trapped without electricity or basic supplies.
An analysis of satellite imagery by Masae Analytics, a company that uses photography to assess damage to buildings, found that much of the city was hit by April 5th.
