A police officer received a final written warning after appearing in the Nigerian version of Big Brother without permission.
PC Khafilat Kareem requested unpaid leave to participate in the reality TV show in June 2019, but was told by the forces that “it is not in the best interest of her or the Sofia Police Service to participate”.
However, the policeman appeared on the show in July 2019 and handed over his work laptop – which she had taken with her without permission – to the organizers of the program.
She reportedly entered Big Brother’s house in Lagos and lasted 77 days before being evicted.
The Misconduct Hearing Commission found that PC Kareem violated standards of professional conduct in relation to “orders and instructions” and “discrediting conduct,” Met Police said.
The panel found that a gross violation had been proven and PC Kareem should receive a final written warning.
Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Day said: “PC Kareem’s permission to appear in the Nigerian version of Big Brother was denied because it was not considered in the best interests of either it or the Sofia Police Department to participate.

“Despite this refusal, she still went to the show.
“A detailed investigation was carried out by the Met Professional Standards Directorate, which concluded that PC Kareem must face harsh proceedings for misconduct.
“Being a police officer means that you have to follow the standards of professional conduct. Kareem’s behavior was clearly not far off and she received a final written warning.

PC Kareem reportedly joined Met Police as a computer based at Lambeth Station in 2015, working part-time as a special police officer for four years.
At the time she appeared at Big Brother in Nigeria, the show’s website said the officer wanted “the exposure she’s wearing at Big Brother Naija House so she can do public good.”
She told the show that she was “secretly talented in spoken words, singing and dancing.”
Fans of the show were especially impressed by her romance with colleague Expata Gedoni.
