ATHENS, Alabama – The mother of Alabama escaped prisoner Casey White defended her son in an interview with The Post – saying the accused killer is innocent and “not a monster.”
“I just have no idea why they painted him like a monster,” Connie White said over the phone to her son, who escaped from Lauderdale County Jail on Friday morning with the help of a fraudulent correction officer, police said.
Connie said she spoke to her son the day before he disappeared and “everything was fine.”
Casey, 38, has been released from prison by Lauderdale County Assistant Director Vicki White, 56, according to police who released a video of his escape on Tuesday.
Officials said Casey and Vicki, who are not related, had a “special relationship”, although the prisoner’s mother said she did not know about the relationship.
“He never mentioned Vicki White,” Connie said. He said he had a writing friend, but I had no idea who he was.
Vicky, who was in charge of transporting the prisoners, said she was taking Casey to a mental health assessment at the courthouse, police said. The appointment was fabricated and the duo dumped their police cruiser in the parking lot of a local mall and has not been seen since, according to authorities.

Casey was serving a 75-year sentence for attempted murder, burglary, robbery, kidnapping and cruelty to animals. He was charged with murder after admitting the death of Connie Ridgeway, 58.
His mother claims that he dealt with the crime to change the situation in the village district prison.
“The only reason he came to Lauderdale County was to get out of the prison he was in,” she said.
“He wrote a letter saying he had killed this woman. But he didn’t actually kill her, he just did it to get back here.
“He just wanted to get out of this prison because it was so bad and there was no food.

Investigators say Casey and Vicki are suspected of being armed and dangerous. An ex-girlfriend of the escaped prisoner, who once testified that he tried to kill her, told a local newspaper that she feared he would try to find her.
“They are [local police] we promised to step up the patrols, but we freaked out. We don’t know if he will show up and take us out, as he tried to do before, “the unidentified woman told WAAY 13 from a hiding place outside the country.
Despite terrible warnings from officials and fear of previous casualties, Connie stood next to her son when asked if he was dangerous.
“I do not think so. He’s not a monster, that’s what I’m going to say, “she said before abruptly ending the conversation.
“He’s not the monster they make him for at all.”
Up to $ 15,000 in cash was offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
