An Abbotsford driver who crashed and ran away from his father with 6 seriously injured, surrendered: police – BC

The driver of the crashed and fleeing Abbotsford, who left a father of six with potentially life-threatening injuries on Tuesday, has surrendered, police said.

Abbotsford police said the 24-year-old driver introduced himself to investigators on Friday.

Investigators also found the car involved in the crash, police said.

Dale Lilik, 38, was hit while crossing Hillcrest Avenue and Clearbrook Road just before midnight on Tuesday. Police said the driver did not stay.

He is currently in an induced coma at Royal Columbian Hospital after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and remove his small intestine.

The accident also left him with skull fractures.

On Thursday, Lilik’s mother and sister made an emotional call to the driver in the collision to do the right thing and surrender.

“I don’t know how anyone could do that, I’m trying to wrap my brain around how someone can hit someone and just kick them out, I tried to think of many reasons, maybe they were scared, maybe I didn’t know they hit someone, “Michelle Lilique told Global News.

“If they had helped him, it might not have been so bad, but they ran away and left him.”

Abbotsford police thanked the media and the public for their help in the case and said the investigation remained active.

The driver has not been publicly identified and no charges have been filed as of Friday.
