An Ottawa police officer has been charged with assault and sexual assault

An Ottawa police officer has faced several charges in connection with alleged incidents of intimate partner violence.

Ottawa police said Friday that the professional standards department has charged an unnamed employee with sexual assault, assault, criminal harassment and voyeurism. The alleged incidents occurred between 2014 and 2022.

“The violations were reported to OPS earlier this year, prompting an investigation by the Professional Standards Unit,” police said.

The name of the employee will not be disclosed to protect the privacy of the victim, police said, adding that the employee was removed from office.

Police say the crimes do not fall within the mandate of the Special Investigation Unit.
