Angels Sailor Fight: Throws, Eight Pushes While Jesse Winker Pushes, Heats Up

A brawl – a real brawl, not a bunch of players standing around and colliding – broke out between the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday in Anaheim. There was a decent number of shots and a lot of drama, which meant that baseball didn’t resume for a while. In the end, there were eight expulsions – six players and two managers.

In fact, it all started on Saturday night. Terrain floats near Mike Trout’s head on the way to the backstop in the ninth inning. The Angels star was unhappy and said this after the match.

“If you can’t let in, don’t let in,” Trout said (via ocregister.com). “If you’re going to hit me, hit me in the ribs. Don’t hit me in the head. I don’t know if that’s the goal, but … whatever is on my head, don’t do it.”

This is a common and sensible refrain among players. Just stay away from your head when throwing a hard object at speeds above 95 miles per hour. Mariners Peter Eric Swanson said the pitch had just receded.

Nevertheless, it appears to have been postponed to Sunday.

Angels starter Andrew Wonz buzzes in the tower of Mariners star rookie Julio Rodriguez in the first.

The next inning, Wantz hit Jesse Winker off the field. It looked like Winker could take his base, but one of the Angels’ dugouts caught his eye and then joined in. Winker seems to be arguing with Phil Nevin, the Angels’ interim manager. Winker and Mariners shortstop JP Crawford struck during the fight to clear the benches. Look at:

As the judges tried to sort things out, the Angels approached, and Russell Iglesias decided to throw a container of sunflower seeds on the court, and things started again in a second.

Expect penalties, as there were several players who could be seen inflicting multiple blows in these clashes. When the dust settled, the judges threw out: Nevin, Winker, Crawford, Rodriguez, Iglesias, Vanz, the Angels reveler Ryan Tepera, and Mariners manager Scott Servais.

This is the eighth match in the last 11 days between the two teams. The Angels won four of last week, but the Mariners took the first three games of the series.
