Apple Music is now available on Roku devices, but without its best features

Apple Music is now available on Roku. Apple’s streaming app launched yesterday at the Roku channel store, bringing 90 million songs, 30,000 playlists, music videos, Apple Radio and more to any device that runs the Roku platform.

These devices include the Roku Streambar soundtrack and streaming sticks such as Roku Premiere, Roku Streaming Stick + and Roku Streaming Stick 4K.

However, you will not get the full Apple Music experience. This is because there is a lack of both lossless support and spatial audio, a Roku spokesman told The Verge.

Lossless sound has a higher resolution than standard music files, and contains more information to provide more detailed listening. Apple Music offers lossless in two forms: lossless Apple Music (up to 24-bit / 48kHz) and high-resolution lossless (up to 24-bit / 192kHz). You can learn more in our in-depth article.

Meanwhile, surround audio provides surround sound and 3D audio.

Apple Music supports these features in its Android app and Apple TV 4K streaming box, so it’s a bit disappointing that Roku users will miss out. However, a Roku spokesman said that both functions are not supported “currently”, so there is always a chance that they will come later.

Apple Music was the first major streaming service to offer high-definition streaming at no extra cost. This was quickly followed by Amazon Music Unlimited, which folded its HD level into the main subscription. Spotify has long advertised the Spotify HiFi level with high resolution, but it seems to have been postponed indefinitely.

Existing Apple Music subscribers can sign up for the Roku service, or you can subscribe through the Roku Channel Store.
