Nikola Vlasic wept after Ashley Westwood suffered a horrific injury in the first half of Burnley’s Premier League trip to West Ham. The Clarets midfielder was suspected of breaking a leg after a challenge with the Croatian national team, who was stunned by the devastating result of the match.
The game was stopped for a few minutes and both teams temporarily left the field until Westwood received treatment before being withdrawn later.
Vlasic seemed immediately aware of the severity of the injury, encouraging medical staff to rush to the scene.
Westwood’s leg seems to have been caught under the wing during the 0-0 challenge in Burnley’s first game since the dismissal of Sean Deitch in the middle of the week.
Declan Rice was among those who comforted his teammate Vlasic as he struggled to hold back tears.

Dwight McNeill was close to the incident and immediately put his hands behind his head.
He was later spotted kneeling and calming down after seeing the horrific injury up close.
However, there was some slightly more positive news when Westwood touched hands with one of Burnley’s employees as he left the field on a stretcher.
The fighting midfielder also managed to make Ben Mee smile when he left the field next to the dugouts.
His teammates apparently used the incident as motivation in their quest for survival, and the Clarets took a 1-0 lead at the break through Uut Weghorst.
Burnley had a golden chance to double their lead from the penalty spot, but Maxwell Cornet shot from 12 yards.
