Asylum seekers three times more likely to get a place in the UK than in France | News

The number of asylum seekers granted the right to stay in Britain is nearly three times that of France and twice that of the European Union as a whole, a new report has revealed.

Home Office figures show that 77 per cent of asylum seekers were granted the right to stay in the UK in the 12 months to September. This compares with just 25 percent of asylum seekers in France and 37 percent in the EU.

Migration Watch UK, a think tank which campaigns for lower immigration and which carried out the research, said the figures revealed how Britain had become a “destination of last resort” for failed asylum seekers.
