A fire that affected some sheds and outbuildings in Bellingham caused heavy smoke in south London this afternoon (Wednesday, April 27). The London Fire Brigade confirmed that 12 fire engines and about 80 firefighters were at the scene of the accident on Randlesdown Road, Bellingham, right next to the station.
A video posted on Twitter showed huge jets of thick black smoke, while another said he could see clouds from as far away as Beckenham Hill. The London Fire Brigade and the Met Police are currently at the scene.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “Twelve fire engines and about 80 firefighters were called to the fire at Randlesdown Road, Bellingham.
“The fire affected a number of sheds and outbuildings.
“The brigade was called in 1707. Crews from Beckenham, Bromley, Forest Hill and surrounding stations were at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Witness Emma Shaw said: “I can also see it from Blythe Hill Park. Lots of smoke. I hope it’s not as bad as it seems. “
