Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmed as first black woman Supreme Court judge
President Joe Biden’s first Supreme Court candidate, Ketanji Brown Jackson, was confirmed by a Senate vote. After receiving the support of three Republican senators – Susan Collins, Lisa Markowski and Mitt Romney – she also received the support of all 50 Democrats, becoming the first black woman in court.
The vote comes after a seven-week nomination process in which she was heavily criticized by Republicans, who focused on her alleged attempt to condescend to child sex offenders. This criticism, in turn, was widely dismissed as distorting her past decisions.
Earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she had tested positive for Covid-19, with President Biden, Chuck Schumer and other senior figures just signing a bill.
Ms. Pelosi’s diagnosis means that three of the top 10 people in the presidential line are now known to be infected with the virus. The speaker’s team says she is currently asymptomatic.
Meanwhile, at a White House press briefing Thursday, Jen Psaki rejected Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to transport migrants from the southern border to Washington as a “publicity stunt.”

“Justice was targeted during her hearings in the Supreme Court for alleged aiding and abetting terrorists. As someone who has done the same job – and proudly – I find it sad that she feels she needs to minimize what she has done, “wrote Eric Lewis.

Psaki says Abbott has no authority to plan an “advertising stunt” for bus migrants from Texas to the District of Columbia
A White House spokesman has accused Texas Gov. Greg Abbott of promising an illegal “advertising stunt” on Thursday after the Republican governor vowed to put undocumented migrants on charter buses to Washington.
Ms. Psaki was asked about the governor’s announcement at her daily briefing by Fox News correspondent Peter Ducy. In response, she said no Texas official, including the governor, has the legal authority to forcibly relocate people from their state, enforce federal immigration law, or even take any official action outside the state.
