Tickets for the event were distributed to the public across the country through an online lottery.
The event dates back to the 1870s, but the National Park Service said it was Capitol Hill that became a popular place for children to roll eggs – and themselves – down the hill on Easter Monday.
The popularity of the event affected the territory of the Capitol, the National Park Service announced, which led to a measure from 1876, adopted by Congress, which prohibits the use of the Capitol as a playground.

Children will also run to find hidden eggs, collect special prizes and enjoy special performances such as “Sesame Street Live”, singer and songwriter Sophia Carson, “The President’s Own” of the United States Marine Corps, the U.S. Air Force Band, the U.S. Army Band, and the U.S. Navy Band.
A White House spokesman said Disney characters Coco and Doc McSteffins; Dr. Seuss characters like Cat in the Hat and Something 1 and Something 2; Peanuts Snoopy and Charlie Brown; Sesame Street characters; and more will be walking around the White House all day.
