President Biden’s approval numbers remain close to record lows as he faces a series of setbacks, according to a new study.
A recent Gallup poll released on Friday found that approximately 41 percent of adults in the United States approve of Biden’s work for just over a year in office, roughly the same as previous polls showing him underwater in public.
Fifty-six percent of those polled in the latest poll disapprove of Biden’s work as president. This is almost a reversal compared to his approvals when he took office, when 57 per cent of adults surveyed said they approved of the way he did his job.
Gallup noted that Biden’s average approval rating for this point in his term was lower than all other predecessors in the 1950s, except for former President Trump, who had a 39.1 percent favor over the same period. on his term.
Several post-World War II presidents in their first term even had fifth-quarter averages of more than 50 percent, and three – John F. Kennedy, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush – over 70 percent, according to Gallup.
The number of Biden’s approvals has been steadily declining since he took office in January 2021, and the latest study follows other recent studies, including a poll by Politico-Morning Consult last month that found Biden’s approval at about 45 percent.
Biden’s reverse approval rating could ultimately affect this year’s by-elections, with Democrats defending a weak majority in the House of Representatives and Senate.
“While it is possible that approval for Biden’s work will increase between now and the fall election, this would run counter to the historic model for presidents in the second year,” Gallup analysts said.
