The front page of The Daily Mail reported today that The Mail on Sunday had rejected Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s request for a parliamentary meeting over a “misogynistic” article about Angela Raynor.
David Dylan, editor of The Mail on Sunday, rejected the Commons chairman’s request to see him, saying that journalists “should not take instructions from House of Commons officials, no matter how nice they are.”
Mrs Raynor, the deputy leader of the Labor Party, has now responded.
In a series of tweets posted on Twitter, she said: “As women, we sometimes try to turn our backs on the sexism we face, but it doesn’t do us any good. The mail today suggests that I am somehow pleased to be subjected to sexist insults. don’t. They are humiliating and deeply hurtful.
“She really loves him” is a typical excuse known to so many women. But it cannot be the responsibility of women to call him every time. I don’t need anyone to explain sexism to me – I experience it every day.
“Boris Johnson has assured that he will unleash the” horrors of the earth “on Tory MPs who spread this vile sexism. I hope to hear what he will do today.
