Boris Johnson Live News: Partygate’s “refusal” review of Sue Gray “will force Prime Minister to resign”

“Criminal”: Boris Johnson came up with the deputies in the municipalities

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be forced to resign after the “damned” findings of Sue Gray’s review of violators of the blocking of parties in Whitehall are revealed, according to a report.

“Sue’s report is irritating,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying by The Times. “This will make things incredibly difficult for the prime minister … her report may be enough to end it.

Ms Gray, a senior government official, was forced to delay the publication of her investigation into alleged parties at Downing Street and Whitehall during the UK’s coronavirus-induced blockade of the UK after police launched their own investigation.

The prime minister attended at least 12 events at number 10 and was fined for celebrating his 56th birthday in the cabinet.

Mr Johnson, meanwhile, was forced to condemn his own party’s “misogyny” after Labor’s deputy leader Angela Raynor accused Tory MPs of using anonymous briefings to spread “desperate, perverse slander”.

The prime minister, in a show of support for the deputy Labor leader, said he “regretted the misogyny directed at her anonymously” in a Mail report accusing her of “tactics of basic instinct” in the House of Commons.

Covid’s trip was ruled by a “disproportionate and damaged industry,” lawmakers said

Travel restrictions, which are “disproportionate to public health risks”, have caused serious damage to the UK aviation industry, the Transport Selection Committee said.

In a broad and highly critical report, lawmakers say the government’s frequently changing Covid-19 rules “are not based on scientific consensus.”

The measures caused a “serious financial shock to the sector” without significant health benefits. But the government insists that travel restrictions “have been in place for no longer than absolutely necessary,” writes our travel correspondent Simon Calder.

The prime minister’s chances of political survival are 50/50, says a Tory commentator

Andrew Pierce of the Daily Mail said Boris Johnson’s future could develop amid reports that a review of Sue Gray’s Partygate could end his career.

“If you asked me three weeks ago, I would say it’s fine, it’s safe. I think it’s 50/50 now,” he told ITV’s Good Morning Britain earlier.

Mr Pierce also said Britons were more interested in issues such as the cost of living crisis than Partygate, but he acknowledged that Tory MPs had a great “survival instinct” and were probably beginning to wonder if the prime minister will “lose their place” in the municipalities.

Labor promises to eliminate stateless tax breaks

Labor will abolish the homelessness status used by wealthy people to cut their tax bills when they vote for power, the party said.

Labor Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “Because the Tories are raising taxes on working people, it is not right for those at the top to take advantage of outdated stateless tax breaks. With Labor, the people who make the UK their home will contribute to this country by paying a tax on their global income. “

The Prime Minister warned not to give up the commitment for zero

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been warned that diluting his commitment to net zero carbon will cost the Tories nearly 1.3 million votes.

A study by Onward, a think tank close to the party, found much stronger support for adhering to the 2050 policy than abandoning it, even as economic clouds darken.

This comes when a powerful group of Tories, including former ministers Steve Baker and Esther McVeigh, are pressuring Mr Johnson to accept that the cost of losing those who support zero policies is too high.

Last month, Conservative President Oliver Dowden attacked the “dogma of zero net levels” as he insisted that new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea must continue.

ICYMI | Deputies are allowed by the president to call the prime minister a “liar” in parliament

The Speaker of the House of Commons allowed lawmakers to call Prime Minister Boris Johnson a “liar” during a parliamentary debate.

Deputies are forbidden to use non-parliamentary language in the hall, which usually involves calling other deputies liars.

The unusual step comes when parliament debates whether the prime minister should be faced with investigating standards of conduct during the Partygate scandal – and whether he has deceived parliament.

Sue Gray’s partygate report could end Johnson’s presidency

Whitehall’s report on parties violating the Covid-19 blockade is so “irritating” that it will force Boris Johnson to resign, officials say.

In an interim report published in January, the cabinet official said there had been “failures in leadership and judgment” in №10 regarding the so-called party saga.

The Times, citing an official who described the contents of the full report, said Ms Gray’s full findings were even more critical of the prime minister personally and could end his term as prime minister.

“Sue’s report is desperate. This will make things incredibly difficult for the prime minister. There is a lot of pressure on her – her report may be enough to end it. No employee has ever been in such a position, “the source said.

The prime minister congratulated Macron on his re-election as French president

“Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on your re-election as President of France,” Mr Johnson wrote on Sunday.

The Prime Minister added: “France is one of the closest and most important allies. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues that matter most to our two countries and to the world. ”

Macron won a second term in the French presidency, receiving 58.55% of the vote, defeating his far-right rival, Marine Le Pen.

His victory amid the Russian war in Ukraine became crucial for European allies after Ms Le Pen said there should be a “strategic rapprochement” between NATO and Russia after the end of the conflict.

The Prime Minister wrote to Raynor to insist that the statement of “basic instinct” was not in his name

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has written to Labor’s deputy leader Angela Raynor to insist that the “misogynistic” allegations made about her by an unidentified Tory MP are not in his name.

Mr Johnson sent a letter to the Labor leader in response to a report in the Mail on Sunday, which was condemned by both Tories and Labor MPs, The Daily Telegraph reported.

In his letter, Mr Johnson assured Ms Raynor that the comments were “not on his behalf”, expressing sympathy for the anonymous attack.

Tory ministers and shadow cabinet members accused of “sexual violence”

Three Tory ministers and two shadow ministers in the Labor cabinet have been reported to a parliamentary oversight service that deals with complaints against lawmakers over allegations of sexual abuse.

They are among 56 lawmakers who have been targeted by the Independent Complaints and Complaints Scheme (ICGS) in connection with about 70 individual complaints, according to The Sunday Times.

The charges range from making sexually inappropriate comments to more serious offenses, the paper said, with at least one complaint believed to include crime and allegations that an MP “bribes a staff member in exchange for sexual services”.

Thomas Kingsley has more.
