Boris Johnson visits India live: Prime Minister will face no-confidence vote by summer, Tory chief says

Boris Johnson is arriving in India while lawmakers will vote on whether he misled parliament

Boris Johnson could be in the jaws of a no-confidence vote in the next three months, a senior conservative warned, calling for his resignation.

Earlier this week, former Secretary of State Mark Harper called on the Prime Minister to resign over his behavior during the Partygate scandal, saying Mr Johnson was “no longer worthy” of the post.

Speaking to Chopper’s The Telegraph’s Politics podcast this morning, the former chief whip said he expected the number of letters sent to the 1922 Committee to exceed the amount needed to trigger a vote before July.

He said: “Colleagues must decide that they want to run in the election, with Boris Johnson leading the Conservative Party.

“If they do, they can just sit on their hands. But if they do not, they must send a letter to Sir Graham Brady. And if there is a vote of confidence, they must be ready to vote against.

Critics of the prime minister have always disliked him, the minister said

Northern Ireland Minister Connor Burns has spoken out against Tory MPs, calling for the resignation of Boris Johnson.

“There are a number of colleagues in parliament who have never really supported the prime minister,” Burns told BBC Radio 4 Today.

He added: “If the prime minister got off Westminster Bridge and walked on the water, they would say he can’t swim – that’s a fact.

“We need to stop drinking Kool-Aid,” said the former Tory minister

Conservative MP Tobias Eloud reiterated his call to “stop drinking Kool-Aid”, supporting Boris Johnson as leader.

Speaking to Sky News, the former defense minister said: “All MPs are deeply concerned about what the party is going through at the moment and what to do next, given the great credit you have to give to Boris Johnson for bringing out the party so far.

After an earlier tweet in which he suggested a similar order, he continued: “But we must stop drinking Kool-Aid, which encourages us to think that all this will disappear and that we can all move forward.

“We cannot use Ukraine as a fig leaf to avoid these difficult issues – the issue of the party continues to divert attention from both domestic and international issues and simply does not disappear.

“I’m afraid we’ll see a constant stream of letters, resignations … I predicted that.

Downloading the NI protocol “absolutely amazing and incredibly harmful” – Labor

The Secretary of Labor in the shadow of Northern Ireland called the reports that the government was preparing to pass a law to break the Protocol on Northern Ireland “absolutely amazing and incredibly harmful”.

The shadow secretary of Northern Ireland told Sky News: “Boris Johnson was negotiating, his team drafted the Protocol for Northern Ireland; they presented it to the EU, they negotiated it in a deal.

“This is not working as well as it can, that’s why labor policy is, you are building on it – we can improve the protocol, we can smooth it out and we can do it without violating the law and we signed our international agreement with the EU.

“If we simply recklessly withdraw from it unilaterally, how will any other country in the world sign a deal with us and think that we will respect it?

“How will Prime Minister Modi react today when Boris Johnson requests a trade deal if he unilaterally withdraws from the last trade agreement he signed?”

“Unreliable and incompetent” prime minister hurts government, Labor says

In the second part of his appearance on Sky News this morning, Labor’s Peter Kyle said Boris Johnson’s “character flaws” hurt the way the country is run.

The shadow secretary of Northern Ireland said: “This (the party door) is mainly about the shortcomings of his character as a leader: he is lying, untrustworthy and incompetent.

“These same character flaws are the same reason we have a low-growth economy and a high-tax economy, we have crime at record levels right now, and we have seven million people waiting to be treated by the NHS.

“It all comes down to the flaws in his character revealed by the party.”

The authority of the prime minister and his government is “running out”, says the top MP from the Labor Party

Following Connor Burns’ support for the prime minister’s continued leadership, Northern Ireland’s shadow secretary Peter Kyle said Boris Johnson’s authority was being “squeezed” as he lost support from conservatives.

Mr Burns told Sky News: “If they had the numbers, they would have won the offer yesterday.

“They actually offered a devastating fix of the day to try to ruin the whole thing, but they still couldn’t do it with a majority of 80, so they pulled it out at the last minute.

“This means that there are not even enough Tory MPs who believe that Boris Johnson is right to make them go through the lobby to say that.

“You can feel yesterday that the authority of Boris Johnson and his government is being drained.

“Conversely, when you see Keira Starmer’s three performances this week and Boris Johnson’s three performances, I think it’s very clear who is running, who is leading and who is leading a party that is united and has ideas beyond partygate. how to deal with the challenges in the economy, in public services and how to deal with crime.

“No question” for the resignation of the Prime Minister because of the order of Partygate, insists the Minister of Tories

It seems that the Minister of Northern Ireland, Connor Burns, has been summoned to take over the media circles this morning, as the concern among Tory supporters is growing due to the post of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Speaking to Sky News this morning, Mr Burns insisted there was “no doubt” that the prime minister would step down over the partygate.

He said Mr Johnson was confident he would be cleared once the full facts were made public.

“He remains confident that when people can see the full context of what happened, it will become clear that he was honest, he told the House in good faith that he believes the rules have been followed.

“He is looking forward to this end. He looks forward to concluding this so that it can be fully considered so that we can move on to the things that people are really concerned about. “

The no-confidence vote is a matter of “when not if”, says Tobias Elwood

Tory senior MP Tobias Eloud, who also called for Boris Johnson to step down, said a growing number of deputies were “concerned” by his leadership.

“Now is the time, not the vote of confidence,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today program.

The chairman of the defense committee said that the ongoing saga of Partygate “causes long-term damage to the party’s brand.”

Mr Elwood also tweeted that Tory MPs should “stop drinking Kool Aid”.
