Bristol ring road accident: A4174 reopens after moped killer

A moped rider died in a crash on the new A4174 Avon ring road last night (Easter Sunday, April 17). Police closed the road to Wraxall as a large number of ambulance crews were present, but unfortunately the man was pronounced dead on the spot.

Last night, shortly after the collision, there were reports of a “blockade” of drivers at the intersection. Reports say a group of people who got out of their cars were stopped in the middle of the road, preventing other drivers from passing instead of diverting them around.

The A4174 was closed in both directions between the Kingsfield roundabout in Longwell Green, past Kingswood and to the Deanery Road roundabout in Warmley. Since then, however, the road has been open and traffic has returned to normal.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed this morning that they were called at 9.45pm for a fatal collision involving a car and a moped rider. A 27-year-old man was detained and remained in custody at 8.30 am.

The road was closed for several hours, but reopened shortly before 5.30 this morning.
