Californians working from home are moving to Mexico amid inflation

More than 360,000 people left California in 2021, in what some call the Exodus from California – many of them going to states such as Texas, Arizona and Washington.

And a growing number of former Californians are migrating entirely from the country and heading south of the border instead. Many are looking for a calmer and more affordable lifestyle in Mexico.

California consistently ranks high as one of the most expensive states to live in in the country. The average asking price for a home in California is about $ 797,470 – only 25% of households in the state could afford this in the fourth quarter of 2021.

California’s population growth has been declining for more than 30 years. But with the rise in telecommuting due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these trends have accelerated. Being able to work anywhere makes 62% of Americans consider moving to a new country.

However, there are some failures. Many critics say Americans are raising the price of housing for locals and taking them out of the market.
