Canadiens @ Blackhawks Top Six Minutes: Dach Friday

For our new readers and members, Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and fun. Full recaps are released the morning after each game.

Börje Salming passed away yesterday and if you haven’t seen the patch honoring “King Börje” on the Leafs jerseys, please do. A fantastic tribute.

1st period

  • We’re leaving!!!
  • Somehow Edmondson is in front of the net and Monahan picks up Edmondson’s stick and we have a GOAL for Montreal!
  • Nice steal and move by Monahan, who set up Anderson, but no puck in the net.
  • Montreal used gaps in the neutral zone to create a good offense.
  • Matheson to the sin bin, time to play box.
  • Some strong defense from Montreal here.

2nd period

  • Crazy rescue of Montembo!
  • Tied game, Montreal can’t get the puck out of the zone. Twice the pass outside the area was intercepted, the second time leading to a goal.
  • Strong play goal!!! Captain Suzuki! 2-1 Montreal!
  • Joel Armia hits the post. So close yet so far.
  • Dadonov to the box, upcoming box-play for Montreal.
  • Big fight toward the end of those two minutes, Anderson finally gets the puck out for a lane change.
  • Gallagher with a break, great pass by Dadonov. The ambush call must have come from Qatar and the VAR room was damn late.
  • Xhekaj to the box.
  • SAVE! MONTEMBO!
  • … and Monaghan hit the post on the breakaway.

3rd period

  • Soderblom with a great save on Caufield’s shot.
  • Slafkovský down… Pezzetta goes after the Chicago player before the referee even considers calling the game.
  • Slafkowski gets up, but a little cautiously. He looks shaken.
  • Panic behind the Chicago bench when they realize Jekai is on the ice.
  • It wasn’t a free kick, so Suzuki missed the breakaway.
  • Now that’s a soft call. Bullet to the box…
  • … and, of course, the opponents score, not the refs, but the Blackhawks.

Overtime/Shoot Out

  • Too many men in OT! Chicago had five guys on the ice.
  • Power Kill™️
  • This power play was too slow, he had to take the goalkeeper and play 5v3.
  • Suzuki with Datsyuk’s move…
  • … but Kirby Dach wins it for Montreal!
