Carnival passenger Mardi Gras “jumps overboard” while screaming children warn crew

A man jumped from a ship on the Carnival Cruise Line in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida on Saturday morning, officials said

The Coast Guard deployed two patrol boats and a plane to search for the unidentified 43-year-old, whose jump reportedly shook holidaymakers running and screaming on the deck of the ship.

The man jumped from the ship shortly after midnight, about 55 miles east of Port Canaveral, according to military and Carnival officials.

A passenger on the massive ship reported that people were climbing on the deck of the cruiser early Saturday morning, while employees of Mardi Gras and the nearby cruise ship Elation began searching for the man overboard, according to TMZ.

Mardi Gras left Grand Turk and had to complete its route to the naval port while the search resumed, officials said.

“The Carnival Care team supports the family of the guests,” said Carnival spokesman Matt Lupoli. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family.”

The incident was the third of its kind in the last three months.

Last month, the body of a man who jumped from Carnival Horizon was found in the Caribbean.

In February, a woman jumped to her death from Carnival Valor in the Gulf of Mexico to evade security after a fight in a hot tub.
