BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) – Three Chinese astronauts from the Shenzhou-13 manned spacecraft have completed their six-month mission to the space station and returned safely to Earth on Saturday.

The mission notes that China has completed a test of key technologies on its space station and is also setting a record for the duration of Chinese astronauts in orbit, the China Pilot Space Agency (CMSA) said.

The returning capsule of Shenzhou-13, carrying astronauts Jai Jigan, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, landed at the Dongfeng landing site in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of northern China at 9:56 a.m. (Beijing time).

The Shenzhou-13 manned mission was a complete success, CMSA reported.

The returning capsule detached from the spacecraft’s orbital capsule at 9:06 a.m. under the command of the Beijing Aerospace Control Center. The brake motor of the return capsule is started at 9:30 am, followed by separation of the return capsule from the drive capsule.

After the successful landing of the return capsule, the ground search team arrived at the landing site. Medical personnel confirmed that the astronauts were in good health after opening the hatch of the return capsule.

The Shenzhou-13 spacecraft was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China on October 16, 2021, and later joined the main module of the Tianhe Space Station.

After the jump, the three astronauts entered the main module and began their six-month stay in space.

During the mission, the crew performed twice out-of-ship activities (EVA). They conducted a number of scientific and technological experiments, including manual remote control and transfer of modules supported by the robotic arm.

They tested important technologies for the construction and operation of the space station to maintain the astronauts’ long-term stay, the recycling and life support system, the delivery of space materials, extraterrestrial activities and operations, and maintenance in orbit.

The crew also gave two live lessons from the space station and conducted a series of activities, including promoting science.
