A recently released suspended high-risk sex offender was arrested on Thursday in connection with the brutal rape of a woman in an elevator in the Bronx this week, cops said on Thursday.
Level 3 offender Ramon Rotestan – who was released just six weeks ago after 16 years in prison – turned himself in at 49:30 in the 49th precinct, police said.
The horrific encounter happened around 10 pm on Monday, when Rotestan followed the woman to the building on Bolton Street and Lidig Avenue in Pelham Parkway, authorities said.
The assailant was dragged behind the victim as she entered the elevator, where he appeared to be talking to her, pointing a knife, cops said.
The video of the surveillance video from the elevator allegedly shows Rotestan interacting with his victim before taking out what looks like a condom.
He then raped her and took $ 112 from her, police said.
She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, cops said.

“Our most violent prisoners are constantly being released, even though they are a danger to the community, all for a second chance,” a police source said. “We’re doing the community a disservice and we’re almost implicit in their next crime.”
Rotestan has also served a first-degree robbery sentence and sentences for controlled substances. NYPD In previous allegations of rape, Rotestan was armed with a knife and approached his victim in an elevator.
Rotestan has also been convicted of first-degree robbery, attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance, the records show.
