Cristiano Ronaldo announced that his son had died in childbirth, with the Manchester United striker saying that only the birth of the child’s twin sister gave him and his partner Georgina Rodriguez the strength to “experience this moment”.
The 37-year-old posted the news on Instagram on Monday night. “We must announce with the deepest sadness that our boy has died,” the statement said. “It’s the biggest pain any parent can feel. Only the birth of our little girl gives us the strength to live this moment with a little hope and happiness.
“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated by this loss and we kindly ask for your privacy at this very difficult time. Our boy, you are our angel. We will always love you. ”
In October, Ronaldo said he and Rodriguez were expecting twins, with the Portuguese already having four children, two of whom are twins. “I am pleased to announce that we are expecting twins,” a statement said at the time. “Our hearts are full of love – we can’t wait to meet you.” Rodriguez has previously said how loving a father Ronaldo is. “Every day next to you is happy and special,” she said on Instagram. “We love you endlessly. Thanks a lot to the best dad in the world. ”
United travel to Anfield on Tuesday to play in Liverpool in the Premier League. It remains unclear whether the striker will feel ready to surrender for the game. In response to Ronaldo’s news, United posted a message on Twitter. It read, “Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano I am sending love and strength to you and your family at this time.
Ronaldo returned to United in August for a second term after playing for the club between 2003 and 2009. He is United’s top scorer this season, with his 3-2 hat-trick against Norwich City on Saturday leading to 21 goals in all competitions.
It was the 60th hat-trick in the Portuguese’s career, during which he scored a total of 807 goals and was named FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or winner five times. Ronaldo has also won the Champions League five times and won league titles with United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
